Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago Celebrates Easter and Cathedral Feast

Chicago, IL, May 5, 2024 – The Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois, was alive with jubilation and spiritual fervor as the community gathered to celebrate Easter and the feast of Christ’s Resurrection, to which the Cathedral is dedicated. The highlight of the day was the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Grace Bishop Longin of the New Gracanica Midwestern Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church, alongside V. Rev. Darko Spasojevic, Dobrivoje Milunovic, and Deacons Milovan Gogic and Theodore Sokolovich.

The Divine Liturgy, attended by a multitude of faithful, was a deeply moving experience. His Grace Bishop Longin’s presence added to the solemnity and joy of the occasion, as he led the congregation in celebrating the central event of the Christian faith – the Resurrection of Christ.

“The atmosphere during the Liturgy was filled with reverence and joy,” commented one attendee. “To participate in such a sacred service, especially under the guidance of Bishop Longin, was truly uplifting.”

Following the Divine Liturgy, the festivities continued with a traditional banquet and fellowship, a cherished part of the Cathedral’s annual celebration. The banquet, held in honor of Christ’s Resurrection, brought together members of the community to share in the joy of the occasion and strengthen bonds of friendship.

“We come together not only to commemorate the Resurrection but also to rejoice in our shared faith and fellowship,” said V. Rev. Darko Spasojevic. “It’s a time when we reaffirm our commitment to Christ and to one another.”

The banquet featured a rich selection of Serbian cuisine, including beloved dishes such as cevapi, sarma, and baklava. As attendees enjoyed the food and each other’s company, the spirit of camaraderie and gratitude filled the room.

“This celebration is a testament to the enduring power of our faith and the strength of our community,” remarked Dobrivoje Milunovic. “It’s a time to give thanks for the blessings of the Resurrection and to renew our commitment to living out its message in our lives.”

As the day drew to a close, the echoes of hymns and prayers lingered, serving as a reminder of the profound significance of Christ’s Resurrection in the lives of believers.
