The Clergy, Executive Board, and community of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral mourn the tragic loss of +Marko Niketic, who passed away in a car accident in Glenview on May 12, 2024, at the tender age of 17.
Marko was a cherished parishioner and an active member of our SOKO folklore group. His family has been a cornerstone of our community for many years. As we pray for the salvation of Marko’s soul, we also seek comfort and strength for his grieving family and friends.
To honor Marko’s vibrant life, kindness, and desire to give back to others, his family is proud to announce the establishment of the Marko Niketic Foundation. This foundation will support various causes close to Marko’s heart, ensuring his spirit of generosity and love for life continues to make a positive impact.
Marko’s mom, Gordana, shared these heartfelt words:
“As you all know by now, our beloved Marko is no longer with us. Words cannot describe our devastation. I want all of you to know: your love, support, presence, and shared pain are so appreciated. From the bottom of our hearts, we cannot thank you enough. We read every text, listened to every message, and our hearts break anew. Anyone who encountered our Marko felt his energy, positive presence, and his love for life. He was our firecracker. No words will ever be enough.
We have started a foundation to honor his vibrant life, kindness, and desire to give back to others: www.markoniketic.com.
Please live your life to the fullest, be kind to one another, and let’s use our pain towards greatness.”
The entire community of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral stands united in support and love for the Niketic family. We invite you to join us in supporting the Marko Niketic Foundation and ensuring Marko’s legacy lives on through acts of kindness and generosity.
May the memory of +Marko Niketic be eternal, and may his legacy inspire us all to live our lives with the same joy, kindness, and passion that he did.
