A Living Dream: Chicago and Milwaukee Campers Gather at St. Sava Monastery

It was a historic and joy-filled week for the youth of our community as the Holy Resurrection Cathedral (HRSOC) Summer Camp took a special field trip to the sacred grounds of St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville.

The highlight of the day was a beautiful gathering where the HRSOC campers met and fellowshiped with the children from the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Milwaukee, WI. Seeing the monastery grounds alive with the laughter, prayers, and energy of so many Serbian Orthodox youth felt like a profound spiritual milestone. It was impossible not to think of Saint Mardarije’s sacred vision for this diocese. Nearly a century ago, before his falling asleep in the Lord in 1935, he poured his life into building Libertyville so that future generations would have a spiritual home to preserve their faith and identity. Witnessing hundreds of children gathered together on these holy grounds, alongside the magnificent St. Mardarije Cultural Center which is now nearing completion, is proof that his holy dream is truly coming through.

This incredible excursion is just one highlight of an exceptionally successful summer. The HRSOC Camp, hosted at St. Sava Academy, has expanded to last five weeks this year and is remarkably well-attended, reflecting the vibrant growth of our parish youth programs.

The excitement continues into next week! The camp is deeply honored to announce that Their Royal Highnesses Hereditary Prince Philip and Princess Danica Karađorđević will visit the camp at St. Sava Academy next week on Tuesday, June 23, at 11:00 AM. This royal visit will give our campers a unique opportunity to interact with the Prince and Princess, capping off what is already turning out to be an unforgettable summer of faith, friendship, and heritage.
