Recently, the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, Illinois, marked a significant milestone in its community service initiatives with the creation of the Dusanka Kuljanin Endowment Fund. This dedicated effort by the Kuljanin family and the Cathedral aims to foster community outreach and support charitable causes both locally and in Serbia. Established with an initial donation of $15,000, the endowment is designed to operate in perpetuity, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.

Dušanka Kuljanin, née Zelenović, was born on May 23, 1948, in Visoko, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Raised with her parents, sister, and brother in Sarajevo and later in Konjic, she completed her education and worked there for over 20 years. Dušanka’s life centered around her family, whom she loved and supported tirelessly. Her dedication to her family extended to her children and grandchildren, who cherished her unconditionally.

In 1992, Dušanka and her family relocated to Chicago amidst the turmoil of civil war. Despite the challenges, she rebuilt her life with determination, ensuring her family’s well-being through hard work. Known for her boundless generosity, Dušanka immediately engaged in humanitarian efforts to aid Serbian families affected by the war. She played a pivotal role in collecting donations and organizing aid shipments to refugee camps in Serbia. At the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, she joined the humanitarian committee, continuing her mission to support families and children in Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.

Dušanka’s deep love for Serbia and its people remained steadfast throughout her life in Chicago. She celebrated every achievement and progress of the Serbian community worldwide. In honor of her legacy of compassion and service, her family established the Dusanka Kuljanin Endowment Fund to continue her humanitarian work, focusing on aiding those most in need in Serbia.

The establishment of the Dusanka Kuljanin Endowment Fund represents a collaborative effort to create a lasting positive impact on the community. Душанка (Зеленовић) Куљанин 1948 – 2024

Душанка Куљанин, девојачки Зеленовић, је рођена 23. маја 1948. године у граду Високо у Босни и Херцеговини. Живела је са родитељима, сестром и братом у Сарајеву, па потом у Коњицу где је завршила школовање и радила преко 20 година. Ту је и формирала своју породицу којој је целог живота пружала велику љубав, помоћ и подршку. Њена посвећеност породици је била неизмерна и своје врлине је преносила деци, а после и унуцима који су своју баку Душку безгранично волели.

Избијањем страшног грађанског рата, доселила се у Чикаго у 1992. години где је са породицом изградила нови живот почевши од почетка. У тешким околностима, својим трудом и радом обезбедила је све услове за живот. Душанка је била оличење великодушности и увек је била спремна да помогне другима. При доласку у Чикаго, укључила се у хуманитарни рад за помагање српским породицама погођеним ратом. На разне начине је учествовала у иницијативама за прикупљање донација и хуманитарне помоћи која се слала породицама у избеглиштвима широм Србије. При цркви Светог Васкрсења у Чикагу, прикључила се одбору за хуманитарну делатност који је скупљао донације и средства за помоћ у Србији. Такође је била посебно заинтересована да пружи помоћ деци и учествовала у акцијама за обезбеђење материјала и опреме намењену подршци деце у Србији и Републици Српској.

Иако је дуго година живела у Чикагу, Душанки је увек остала велика љубав према Србији и српском народу где год живели. Радовала се сваком напретку и успесима нашег народа. Оснивањем овог фонда у њено име, њена породица жели да ово буде наставак њеног хуманитарног рада који би био усмерен помоћи онима којима је најпотребније у Србији.

Душанка је оставила за собом наслеђе љубави према породици и другима. Недостаје свима нама а највише најближима за које је све од себе дала. Нека јој Господ подари вечан покој. Вјечнаја памјат.
