Yesterday, Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral had the immense blessing of welcoming His Grace Bishop Serafim, who presided over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. His Grace was joined by V. Rev. Dr. Darko Spasojevic, Dean of the Cathedral, and V. Rev. Stavrophor Dobrivoje Milunovic, who co-celebrated the service.
For the first time at our Cathedral, His Grace served the Divine Liturgy entirely in English, bringing the beauty of Orthodox worship closer to all faithful. In his heartfelt sermon, His Grace reflected on the Gospel reading of the day, the parable of the “Rich Man and Lazarus” (Luke 16:19-31). He emphasized the profound importance of showing mercy and compassion to those in need, as God is merciful to us. The story, which contrasts the fates of a wealthy man and a poor beggar named Lazarus after death, serves as a sobering reminder of the eternal consequences of our earthly actions and the call to care for the less fortunate.
Fr. Darko extended a warm welcome to Bishop Serafim on behalf of the Cathedral clergy and the entire community, expressing gratitude for his visit and spiritual leadership. After the service, His Grace briefly greeted parishioners before traveling to the West Coast, where he attended a fundraising banquet at St. Simeon Serbian Orthodox Church in Las Vegas later that evening.
We are also delighted to announce that on Sunday, December 15, 2024, His Eminence Metropolitan Longin and His Grace Bishop Serafim will serve the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at our Cathedral. On this special day, we will have one Divine Liturgy at 9:30 AM. We encourage all parishioners to join us and attend.
The presence of Bishop Serafim brought joy to our Cathedral. His message inspires us to live with love, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. As we reflect on the parable of the “Rich Man and Lazarus,” may we strive to live as true disciples of Christ, mindful of the needs of those around us.
