First Day of School at St. Sava Academy

Blessing the Beginning of the 2025–26 Academic Year

The Holy Resurrection Cathedral joyfully shares the news of the first day of school at St. Sava Academy, which opened its doors for the 2025–26 Academic School Year with great enthusiasm and gratitude.

Students, parents, teachers, and many new families gathered together for a blessed start. This year is especially historic for the Academy, as it celebrates a record enrollment of 202 students — a sign of God’s grace and the growing strength of our school community.

The morning began with greetings from Dr. Don Hendricks, Ed.D., Interim Principal of St. Sava Academy, together with Peter Vezmar, Interim President of the Board of Trustees, and Samantha Lazic, Board Member. Their words of encouragement reminded everyone of the Academy’s mission to nurture both academic excellence and faith.

Our Cathedral clergy led the traditional blessing of water, offering prayers for the students, faculty, and classrooms. Each child received a blessing to mark the beginning of a fruitful and faith-filled school year.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Zora and Holly Goljić, who beautifully captured the joy and spirit of the day through her photography.
