Fellowship, Faith, and Tradition Shine at Folklorijada 2025
Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral was honored to host Folklorijada 2025, a joyful and unforgettable weekend that brought together over 20 folklore groups from across the United States and Canada. More than just a celebration of song and dance, the event served as a vibrant expression of our shared Serbian heritage, Orthodox faith, and strong sense of community.
The Cathedral grounds were filled with thousands of guests who came to witness performances by talented young dancers and musicians on two stages—indoors and outdoors—transforming our campus into a living tapestry of tradition. It was especially moving to see so many young people embracing and celebrating their roots with such passion and pride. Their energy and commitment were deeply inspiring and offered a hopeful vision for the future of our culture and Church.
Beyond the performances, the weekend overflowed with fellowship. Families and friends gathered to enjoy the sounds of traditional Serbian music and the aromas of beloved dishes like ćevapi, burek, and palacinke, lovingly prepared by our dedicated volunteers. The hospitality and warmth that filled every corner of the Cathedral campus reminded us all of the strong bonds that hold our community together.
A special moment came with the visit of Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, whose presence and kind words underscored the importance of cultural preservation and affirmed the positive impact of our parish within the wider civic community.
We also recognize Toma Stojakovic, HRSOC Board President, whose leadership was instrumental in the success of this event. Drawing from his many years of experience organizing SerbFest, Toma reflected on the weekend, saying:
“It’s amazing that we were able to bring together as many groups as we did—20 folklore groups from Canada and across the United States. It’s a blessing to be able to host something of this scale. We may not have as many events of this size, but this was a major undertaking, and we’re proud to have shown what’s possible when our community comes together. It’s especially important for our youth to meet, build friendships, and feel connected to our shared faith and heritage.”
We extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to our sponsors. Your generosity made Folklorijada 2025 possible. From logistical support to cultural programming, every aspect of this event was touched by your kindness. This gathering of faith, heritage, and unity simply could not have happened without you. Your commitment to our community and culture is a blessing, and we are profoundly grateful for your partnership.
Folklorijada 2025 was more than a cultural event—it was a joyful reunion of generations. From our youngest kolo dancers to our cherished elders, everyone played a part in making this weekend unforgettable. It was a powerful reminder that Holy Resurrection Cathedral is not only a place of worship, but a spiritual and cultural home for all.
On behalf of our clergy and parish leadership, we also thank the performers, families, guests, and especially the volunteers who gave of their time and talents. Your dedication and love made Folklorijada 2025 a true reflection of who we are—a community rooted in faith, united in fellowship, and alive in tradition.
