Palm Sunday at the Cathedral: A Community in Bloom

Palm Sunday at the Cathedral: A Community in Bloom

The Cathedral was filled to capacity this Sunday as we gathered for a beautiful Palm Sunday Divine Liturgy. The air was thick with the scent of fresh willows and the spirit of a community united to welcome the King of Glory.

One Voice: The Unified Choir

Under the direction of Jelena Stojakovic, the music reached a magnificent peak. For the first time in recent memory, the choir loft was overflowing with a single, powerful ensemble of 45 voices:

  • The Cathedral Choir: 25 adults providing a rich, harmonic foundation.
  • The Jr. Brankies: 20 children adding a layer of angelic clarity.

Watching the two generations perform as one “Full Choir” was a moving testament to our parish’s vibrant future.

The Paradox of the Palms

In our Orthodox tradition, this feast is a profound paradox. We stand on the threshold between the life-giving miracle of Lazarus and the impending silence of the Tomb.

The day offers a “twist” on traditional victory: it is a triumph of utter vulnerability. Christ does not enter Jerusalem to demand space, but to make space for us within His own suffering. He is a King who is most visible when He is silent, and most powerful when He is most fragile. The palms we wave are not trophies of conquest, but symbols of our consent to follow a God who wins by losing, reigning from a donkey rather than a throne.

A Generation of “Hosannas”

The most heartening sight was the extraordinary number of children present. From toddlers clutching pussy willows to the Jr. Brankies leading the hymns, our youth reminded us that the Kingdom belongs to those who embrace Christ with pure, unshadowed joy.

As we transition into the solemnity of Holy Week, we carry the strength of this morning’s celebration with us. Thank you to the clergy, the altar servers, and our incredible choir for filling our sanctuary with such radiant prayer.

Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord!

A Joyous Celebration of Vrbica at Our Cathedral

The halls of our Cathedral were filled with the laughter and voices of many children as we gathered for a blessed Vrbica (Lazarus Saturday) celebration. It was a day defined by faith, fellowship, and the vibrant energy of our youngest parishioners as they prepared for the triumphal entry of our Lord into Jerusalem.
