A Joyous Celebration of Vrbica at Our Cathedral

A Joyous Celebration of Vrbica at Our Cathedral

By Protinica Jelena Milunovic

The halls of our Cathedral were filled with the laughter and voices of many children as we gathered for a blessed Vrbica (Lazarus Saturday) celebration. It was a day defined by faith, fellowship, and the vibrant energy of our youngest parishioners as they prepared for the triumphal entry of our Lord into Jerusalem.

An Afternoon of Faith and Fun

The children enjoyed a full schedule of activities designed to nurture both their spirits and their friendships. The afternoon included:

  • Religious Education: Special lessons focused on the miracle of Lazarus Saturday were led by Bonnie Vanoss and Ilija Sisarica.
  • Music & Tradition: Our Choir Director, Jelena Stojakovic, conducted music lessons, teaching the children the beautiful troparions of Palm Sunday and the Resurrection.
  • Creativity & Games: From festive crafts to organized games, the children stayed active and engaged throughout the event.

One of the highlights of the day was the Vrbica T-Shirt Contest. Congratulations to our winner, little Adrianna, whose beautiful drawing was featured on the back of this year’s official event t-shirts!

The Grand Procession

The festivities concluded with the Vespers Service, followed by our traditional procession. It was a truly moving sight to see so many children wearing bells around their necks and waving palm branches, echoing the joy of the children in Jerusalem who cried out, “Hosanna in the Highest, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”

Gratitude to Our Volunteers

An event of this scale is only possible through the dedicated efforts of our community. We extend our deepest thanks to:

  • Anastasija Igelndza: Our Vrbica Chairperson, who did an amazing job organizing every detail to make this day unforgettable for our youth.
  • The Kolo Sisters: For preparing a lovely Lenten lunch for all the children and for the monumental task of stuffing over 800 plastic eggs with candy and toys for the much-anticipated egg hunt.
  • Our Volunteers: To everyone who helped guide the children throughout the afternoon—your time and care are a blessing to our parish.

Seeing our children so close to the Church for this major feast day is a profound reminder of the purity of faith. May the joy of this Vrbica remain in their hearts as we move toward the Resurrection.

Hosanna in the Highest!
