Thank you to everyone who joined us for a wonderful evening with author Mila Evanovich!
The evening centered on Mila’s award-winning novel, No Bread Tomorrow, a powerful and moving story set in WWII-era Yugoslavia. Through vivid storytelling, Mila brings to life the experiences of ordinary people during extraordinary times, highlighting not only the struggles of war but also the resilience of the human spirit.
We were honored to begin the evening with an insightful introduction by Dr. Vera Dragisic, who framed the discussion with thoughtful context and invited us to reflect more deeply on the themes of history, memory, and storytelling. Fr. Darko warmly welcomed everyone and reminded us of the importance of preserving stories of faith, sacrifice, and endurance for future generations.
Mila shared personal reflections about her inspiration for the novel and spoke passionately about the untold stories of women in WWII—mothers, sisters, and daughters who endured loss, suffering, and immense sacrifice. She explained how her work seeks to uncover these hidden narratives and give voice to those whose contributions and pain were too often overlooked in traditional histories.
The conversation touched on the power of literature to preserve memory, to confront difficult truths, and to open our hearts to empathy and understanding. Audience members engaged with questions about the writing process, the challenges of historical fiction, and the responsibility of an author to remain faithful to both history and storytelling.
We are deeply grateful to Mila Evanovich for sharing her work, her wisdom, and her time with us. This memorable evening reminded us not only of the importance of literature but also of the enduring need to honor the past while educating future generations.
