Bishop Serafim Celebrates Hierarchical Liturgy on the Sunday Before Theophany

Chicago, IL – January 18, 2026

Today, the faithful of the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral were blessed by the pastoral visit of His Grace Bishop Serafim, who celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy together with the Cathedral clergy. The service was well attended as the community gathered in prayer to mark the Sunday before Theophany and the Eve of the Feast (Krstovdan).

The liturgical responses were beautifully sung by the SSS Branko Radichevich Cathedral Choir, adding to the solemnity and joy of the service.

In his sermon, His Grace reflected on the spiritual preparation required to receive the Lord. He emphasized the call to “prepare the way of the Lord,” reminding the faithful that our lives must be a continuous path of making ourselves ready for God’s revelation. You can watch the full sermon and service here.

About the Feast The Sunday before Theophany serves as the final preparation for the Great Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The Gospel reading (Mark 1:1-8) focuses on the ministry of St. John the Baptist, the voice crying in the wilderness, who preached a baptism of repentance. This day invites us to examine our hearts and “make the paths straight” for Christ, just as the Forerunner prepared the world for the Savior’s public ministry at the Jordan River.
